The world was in shock Thursday when it was announced that international musical superstar Prince died at his Paisley Park Estate in Minnesota.
Prince was battling the flu in the weeks leading up to his death, and had shifted around a few concerts because of health concerns. He was found unresponsive in an elevator, where he was later confirmed dead.
Throughout his career, Prince sold over 100 million records, earned 30 Grammy nominations, won 7 Grammy awards, was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 2014; as well as countless other awards and achievements.
Let's take a quick look at the business of Prince.
Prince was a firm proponent of artists controlling how labels make and profit off their music. In August 2015, when speaking to a group of reporters from the National Association of Black Journalists, he compared the relationship between labels and artists as indentured servitude, saying:
Tuesday night in Atlanta, One Music Fest produced an event in partnership with Woodford Reserve - Women of Whiskey's "Living Proof."
The event featured complimentary cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, cupcake station, whiskey/bourbon education, book signings, photo booth experiences, and a ventilated cigar lounge. The event was hosted by Joi, with a special guest appearance by singer Tweet.
After a highly productive two hours of power networking with elite female professionals and entrepreneurs, a celebrated selection of women were honored for their contributions to their industries.
Featured Guests: Saptosa Foster, Melissa Proctor, Jovita Moore, Susanna Spiccia, Dr. Cherry Collier, Anna Ruth Williams.
I'm pretty hard to please when it comes to events...but last night's Living Proof event was certainly worth attending...social, casual yet professional, productive networking, and a shot (pun intended b...
It’s going to happen: haters. They are going to approach you, email you, comment on your social profiles, blab about you on Twitter, publish articles against you and basically try to smear your reputation, your validity or your business.
Haters are gonna hate. But what do you do about it? You receive their comments, see their tweets, read their articles and feel as though you’ve been punched in the gut.
People love to remark that, “Entrepreneurs need to have thick skin.” But how do you make this happen? How can you harden yourself against the attacks of the haters?
Here are some techniques to try when the haters come at you.
1. Think, act, forget.
This is a simple three-step process that I go through when I encounter a hater.
Think. Is what this person said valid?
Act. If so, do something to correct it. If there's nothing you can do, want to do or should do, then skip this step.
I wanted to share a few tips on how helpful it can be when you inform yourself regarding the events you attend, the people you meet - and even getting better informed about the people already in your network, and the clients you're working with.
When you are well-informed, you improve your chances of achieving success and positive results.
Here are a few tips that I hope you find helpful:
• Before you attend an event, do some light research to learn about the people or organization producing the event. This will help you carry intelligent conversation with others you meet at the event, and goes a long way when establishing a relationship with the people behind the event. It also helps to define your purpose for being there. There's nothing worse than attending an event just because you think it's worth it, only to get there to find out you wasted your time and your gas! Get informed!
• Before you attend an event, do a little research to find out which i...
